Double reading reduces miss errors in low prevalence search.

چکیده
Low prevalence studies show that people miss a large proportion of targets if they appear rarely. This finding has implications for real-world tasks, such as mammography, where it is important to detect infrequently appearing cancers. We examined whether having search in pairs double reading procedure reduces errors low compared with when participants the displays alone. In Experiment 1 searched mass laboratory mammogram task. Participants either same display together (in room) or independently separate rooms). 2 further manipulated order so paired read mammograms different orders. The results showed that, although there was no effect order, led substantial reduction single conditions. Furthermore, reason improvement differed across environments: When shared environment (i.e., occurred due an increase sensitivity; however, rooms change response bias. Low target prevalence is a stubborn source of errors in visual search tasks.
In visual search tasks, observers look for targets in displays containing distractors. Likelihood that targets will be missed varies with target prevalence, the frequency with which targets are presented across trials. Miss error rates are much higher at low target prevalence (1%-2%) than at high prevalence (50%). Unfortunately, low prevalence is characteristic of important search tasks such as...
متن کاملReading errors made by children with low vision.
Previous research has shown that, on average, children with low vision lag their sighted peers in general reading development (in terms of speed, accuracy and comprehension). This study sought to examine this apparent lag by comparing the reading profiles of 25 normally sighted readers (mean age 8 years 8 months) with 25 low vision readers. The children were tested using a reading test (the Nea...
متن کاملInterruption Practice Reduces Errors
Mitigating the effects of interruptions is important for tackling the increasing number of possible disruptions at home, at work, and online. Previous work has shown that the benefits of practice can decrease the amount of time it takes to resume a task after an interruption. This paper demonstrates that the same benefit can be extended to error rates at the post-completion step showing that a ...
متن کاملInterpretation errors in CT angiography of the head and neck and the benefit of double reading.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE CTA provides high-resolution imaging of the head and neck vasculature but also of the soft tissues and bones. This results in a large volume of information to be interpreted. This study examines interpretation errors with head and neck CTAs and assesses whether double reading reduces miss rates. MATERIALS AND METHODS Consecutive CTAs of the neck and intracranial circula...
متن کاملColour and spatial cueing in low-prevalence visual search.
In visual search, 30-40% of targets with a prevalence rate of 2% are missed, compared to 7% of targets with a prevalence rate of 50% (Wolfe, Horowitz, & Kenner, 2005). This "low-prevalence" (LP) effect is thought to occur as participants are making motor errors, changing their response criteria, and/or quitting their search too soon. We investigate whether colour and spatial cues, known to impr...
